Our Foundation | Legacy Acres at Stearns Brook Farm

Rooted in heritage · Built for what comes next

The foundation beneath everything we do.

Legacy Acres at Stearns Brook Farm grew from seven generations of family ties to this land, a deep belief in service, and a determination to leave something useful behind. We are building more than a farm. We are building a place where food, forest, healing, and community belong together.

Our purpose

Where the forest heals and the farm sustains.

Land has a way of teaching both patience and responsibility. It asks us to pay attention, care for what has been entrusted to us, and think beyond a single season.

As a veteran- and woman-owned homestead in Milan, New Hampshire, Legacy Acres brings those lessons into everything we grow, make, offer, and share. We believe good food matters. Healthy forests matter. Old knowledge is worth carrying forward. And strong rural communities are built through everyday acts of care.

What grounds us

Four values. One living legacy.

These are not words saved for a mission statement. They are the standards we want our work to live up to.

Honor the land

Care for the soil, woods, water, wildlife, and animals in ways that protect what makes this place worth loving.

Keep useful traditions alive

Carry family recipes, practical skills, local knowledge, and hard-earned lessons forward without becoming afraid to grow.

Put service into practice

Let our values show through useful work, honest products, fair treatment, and meaningful support for the people around us.

Make room for connection

Create welcoming ways for people to reconnect with local food, the natural world, one another, and themselves.

Values made visible

How the foundation shows up

Growing & making

Farm-fresh eggs, seasonal produce, honey, preserves, pantry goods, and other useful things made or chosen with care.

Caring for the woods

Thoughtful stewardship across 400 acres of family forest and farmland, with wildlife habitat, forest learning, and guided experiences that help people slow down and reconnect.

Strengthening community

A self-serve farm stand, local partnerships, shared knowledge, and small opportunities to make rural life a little more connected.

Still growing

A foundation is meant to hold what comes next.

Legacy Acres is a working homestead, and much of what we imagine here is still taking root. We are building deliberately, season by season, with space for the farm to become more useful to our family, our neighbors, and the wider North Country.

That future may take many forms, but the purpose will stay the same: care for the land, create something worthwhile, and leave a stronger legacy than the one we began with.
