A SEVEN-GENERATION FAMILY STORY · MILAN, NEW HAMPSHIRE

We are Legacy Acres.

The roots run up, back, and forward—deep, and still growing. From Papa’s potato rows and Mimi’s canning kitchen to our little Chicken Tenders, everyone has a piece of this story.

We’re the Masters–Buteau family. Seven generations of the Masters family have worked this ground, and we’re grateful to be writing our chapter of it here in Milan, New Hampshire.

MORE THAN A FARM NAME

Family history you can still get your boots dirty in.

Legacy Acres didn't begin with a website or a farm stand. It began long before us—with relatives who worked the ground, raised their families, and passed along the kind of practical knowledge you learn by doing.

Today we're adding our own chapter: chickens, ducks, quail, bees, gardens, a little farm shop, plenty of experiments, and four grandchildren who are making their own memories here.

THE ORIGINAL EXPERTS

First, meet Mimi & Papa.

If you've spent any time around here, you know the farm would be a very different place without these two.

Papa, Keith Masters, of Legacy Acres
THE FOURTH GENERATION

Papa the Potato Guy.

Keith Masters

Keith—aka Dad, aka Papa—is a fourth-generation farmer, locally known as the top welder in the area. Officially retired, though he has never once stopped working, he's the land steward of the family's 400 acres.

He's famous around town for his potatoes, and even more famous for the French fries he makes from them. Chieftain, Superior, Russet Burbank—if it grows here, there's a good chance Papa planted it.

THE FAMILY KITCHEN

Mimi the Canner.

Diane Masters

Diane—aka Mom, aka Mimi—is the pickle master and canning queen of Legacy Acres. She's the hands and the recipes behind every jar that leaves the farm, from pickles to the pantry shelves filled for winter.

She's also the brains behind the books, keeping the homestead's records, recipes, and history as carefully tended as the garden harvest.

PICKLES · PRESERVES · THE CANNING KITCHEN

Mimi and Papa are right across Stearns Brook—close enough for a visit, a question, or a little wisdom from the people who know this place best.

Erica and Rick Buteau at Legacy Acres
THE FIFTH GENERATION · KEEPING THE WHEELS TURNING

Erica & Rick.
A little bit of everything.

Erica (Masters) Buteau is fifth-generation Masters family, a first responder, certified forest therapy guide, master herbalist, author of the Androscoggin After Dark series, and founder of The Peri Files. Rick is a retired U.S. Army veteran, first-generation farmer, and co-owner of Legacy Acres.

Rick oversees livestock and day-to-day farm operations, and he's the man behind our Dick’s Rub seasoning blends. Erica works across the farm, forest, kitchen, writing desk, and farm stand. Together we care for the birds, bees, gardens, and wooded land, and help connect fellow veterans and our community with agriculture.

We don't pretend to have it all figured out. We just believe this place is worth caring for—and worth sharing with the people who come after us.

OFF THE FARM, ALWAYS FAMILY

Isaac & Connor

Building their own paths off-farm, but no less a part of the Legacy Acres story.

SEVENTH GENERATION · SMALL BOOTS, BIG JOBS

Meet the Chicken Tenders.

The future of the farm, already putting in the work—eight little hands carrying on seven generations on this land.

Don't let the name fool you. The Chicken Tenders have real jobs around here. Feeding birds, helping with water buckets, hunting for eggs, and learning the difference between a chicken, a duck, and a quail are all part of the adventure.

There are ducks at the pond, eggs that seem to appear in impossible places, and plenty of reasons to put on boots before breakfast. Sometimes the chores take twice as long with little helpers. The memories last a lot longer.

That's the legacy we're most excited about: not a perfect farm, but a place where the next generation knows it belongs.
