Small Towns Keep Secrets: Androscoggin After Dark Begins

Pink and lavender evening sky reflected in calm water

The Androscoggin Valley is more than the place where we raise chickens and grow food. It’s also the setting that gets into my head when I’m writing.

In May 2026, the Androscoggin After Dark series began rolling out. It’s North Country romantic suspense: small towns, complicated histories, relationships under pressure, and more than a few secrets.

The first book, When the River Freezes, opens that world. The series is planned to continue with When the River Thaws, When the River Runs, and When the River Burns. The stories are fiction, but the atmosphere comes straight from a landscape I know and love.

The North Country has its own character

There’s something about a place where rivers, old roads, forests, and small communities sit close together. You can drive through a village and feel like everyone knows everyone else. Sometimes that closeness is comforting. In a suspense story, it can become very interesting.

I write about the region with affection, even when I’m putting fictional characters through situations I hope none of our neighbors ever experience.

Books belong at the farm, too

At first glance, a farm stand and a romantic suspense series might not have much in common. But to me, they fit. Both come from this place. Both are ways of sharing something of the North Country with readers and visitors.

We’re making room on the Legacy Acres website for books alongside eggs, honey, pantry products, and family stories. There will be children’s books, too—because some of our best inspiration comes from watching the grandchildren discover the farm.

If you like suspense with a distinctly rural New Hampshire heartbeat, I hope you’ll come explore the series. And if romance isn’t your reading style, stick around anyway. There are plenty of other stories growing here.
